A three year trial has shown that acupuncture may double the chance of women getting pregnant using IVF.
Couples using fertility treatments took part in a study at Homerton University Hospital.
The Research
Firstly, researchers studied 127 women between 23 and 43, who were on their first or second round of IVF.
Secondly, they were divided into two groups.
One group had four acupuncture treatments while undergoing IVF and the other had none.
The Results
Firstly, those who received acupuncture achieved higher rates of pregnancy.
The results were presented at the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology.
The acupuncture group achieved pregnancy rates of 46.2% compared to 21.7% of pregnancy rates of those who did not have acupuncture.
“The results imply acupuncture may be offered as a possible method of improving IVF outcome,” said researchers.
Finally, the research contributes to a growing body of evidence suggesting acupuncture as a viable option for boosting the chance of pregnancy.
As noted by the CDC, three out of the top ten busiest fertility clinics in America offer acupuncture.
